Individual Counseling: The school counselor provides individual sessions for students to

Group Counseling: Support group counseling is provided for groups of students who share a
similar concern. Counseling groups may use role playing, puppets, games, and
directed group discussions to help children understand others, improve
communication skills, and learn to cooperate and solve problems together. Groups
typically meet one time per week for 6-10 weeks.

Classroom Guidance: Counselors teach, co-teach, or assist in teaching guidance curriculum
learning activities and affective education classes regarding topics such as
careers, character education, social skills, etc. These lessons and activities
are in line with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and the Alamance
County Guidance Curriculum.

Consultation: Counselors consult with parents, teachers, administrators, community
agencies, and other professionals regarding strategies to help students become
more successful.

Referral: Counselors refer students and their families to community agencies
such as family counseling, mental health and medical services to access
additional assistance from other resources within the community.

School Resources: Counselors teach parent workshops, present information at faculty
meetings, attend parent conferences and other meetings to exchange information
and discuss strategies regarding helping children become more successful.
